On January 8th, 2026, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act (CRGA) into law. The law introduces a statewide battery storage procurement target of 3 gigawatts by 2030, establishes a state Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), increases the state's electric energy efficiency goals, and allows for more than a doubling of gas efficiency investments in the state, among other provisions.
The law was enacted with strong support from the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition (ICJC), an alliance of hundreds of environmental, business, and community organizations. EFG supported the Natural Resources Defense Council's and other ICJC members' work on the energy efficiency provisions of CRGA.
